Edwin Alberto Salazar, alias "El Pálido"—a member of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) operating in Tecate—was executed by two hitmen as he left a soft-drink shop on Benito Juárez Avenue in the municipality's downtown area. Witnesses reported that the victim was being followed by two individuals who had stepped out of a dark-colored compact car, in which a third accomplice remained behind the wheel. Upon spotting Edwin Alberto outside the business, the assailants approached and shot him at close range, striking him in the limbs, chest, and head before fleeing the scene.
