Police busted a jail-based international arms-smuggling network with the arrest of two youths, Rajbir Singh alias Amit and Amar Singh alias Amar, and the recovery of 10 illegal pistols and 20 live cartridges from their possession, near the Kotkapura Road canal bridge in Faridkot District on September 17, reports The Tribune. Preliminary investigation indicates that the module was allegedly operated under the instructions of Deep Singh alias Deepak, a Raunwali, Attari resident currently lodged in Amritsar jail. According to Faridkot Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurbans Singh Bains, the gang allegedly maintained links with Pakistan-based smugglers to receive drone-dropped weapon consignments for distribution in Faridkot and neighbouring districts.
