Local residents reported that People's Defense Forces attacked the Gonnyintan Ta Sung checkpoint in Othekon Town, Okpho Township, Tharrawaddy District, western Bago Region, today, September 27, around 4:00 AM, leading to an ongoing exchange of heavy and light weapons fire.
The Gonnyintan Ta Sung checkpoint is a key intersection where traveling civilians and cargo vehicles pass through in Okpho Township, and locals stated that extortion money is regularly collected from passing vehicles at this location.
It is also known to be a security outpost where Pyu Saw Htee Soe Min's group is stationed alongside the military.
According to locals, after the People's Defense Forces launched their attack on the checkpoint early this morning at around 4:00 AM, troops at the checkpoint returned fire, resulting in a back-and-forth exchange of heavy artillery and small arms fire between both sides.
Due to the gunfire, vehicle movement along the roads near the Gonnyintan Ta Sung checkpoint came to a standstill, causing major traffic jams. Passenger buses, cargo trucks, and other vehicles have been forced to stop on the road, with locals noting that continuing forward is difficult due to the active battle.
