On 23 September 2026, morning, around 10:30 am Muscat time, suspected Iranian forces (coded as IRGC by default) launched two unknown projectiles (coded as air/drone strike based on previous activity) that directly impacted the Cape Dao bulk carrier (IMO: 9219020) around 15 nm northeast of Khasab off the Coast of Kumzar (Khasab, Musandam) while transiting the Strait of Hormuz outbound. The strikes impacted the bridge and C-deck accommodation area as well as the hull near the engine room, sparking a fire in the engine room. It killed 1 Indian crew member and injured 1 other. The vessel was abandoned and left adrift after the Omani Royal Navy evacuated the crew and the fire was extinguished.
