On 23 September 2026, the Malian army and Africa Corps used drones loaded with explosives to attack the village of Banguel, located about 35km from Tagharoust, also known as Gourma-Rharous (Rharous, Gourma-Rharous, Tombouctou). The drone strikes set fire to a local Quranic School and to an unspecified number of shops in the local market. Casualties unknown.
