On 19 September 2026, JNIM claimed to have attacked with mortar shells and rocket fire the military air base in Sevare (Mopti, Mopti, Mopti). The militant group claimed to have hit four Bayraktar (TB2) and Akinci drones and an unspecified number of military helicopters, and destroyed the drone communication tower and radar at the air base. Some sources stated that JNIM also used kamikaze drones. JNIM further claimed to have killed and injured at least 33 Malian soldiers and Africa Corps members, including a captain, at the Sevare air base and the Kona barracks (coded separately).
