On 17 September 2026, evening, at around 19:00 pm Muscat time, IRGC forces launched a drone that directly impacted the Trend oil products tanker (IMO: 9477177) in the Strait of Hormuz around 16 nm northeast of Khasab and 3 nm from the Omani coast in territorial waters (coded to Coast of Kumzar) (Khasab, Musandam), causing a fire onboard. The IRGC stated that the tanker was attacked for attempting to take an 'illegal passage' through the Strait of Hormuz at the instruction of the US. There were no casualties with the crew reported safe.
