UAV event in Oman on Sun 13th September 2026
13th September 2026
On 13 September 2026, night, around 3:00 am Muscat time, Iranian forces (coded as IRGC by default) launched a drone that directly impacted the El Gaia oil products tanker (IMO: 9325336) in the southern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz while anchored around 1.3 nm northeast of the Musandam peninsula (coded to Coast of Kumzar) (Khasab, Musandam) causing a 'severe' fire in the engine room. Casualties unknown. The attack prompted the evacuation of 23 crew members, with 2 others reported missing at the time of reporting. The ship was towed to an Omani port on 15 September while open-source satellite imagery showed an oil spillage. The IRGC claimed that the vessel was set ablaze after striking naval mines during its transit through a restricted area of the southern corridor of the Strait. This was refuted by CENTCOM, which responded that the tanker was struck by a drone.
