On 12 September 2026, an unidentified military drone entered Moldovan airspace and flew near Vasilcau before disappearing from radar near Baxani and reappearing at 16:03 near Cuconestii Noi, after which it continued toward northeastern Romania, prompting the Romanian Air Force to launch two F-16 aircraft and authorities to issue an RO-Alert for Botosani county. The drone was subsequently reported flying over Stiubieni before crashing in a maize field near Botosanita Mare (Calafindesti, Suceava), causing a small fire and leaving a crater about 1 meter in diameter and 30 cm deep.
