On September 11, Security Forces (SFs) recovered a cache of arms, 317 live cartridges, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and a detonator during a joint anti-Naxal operation in Seraikela-Kharsawan District, Jharkhand, reports The Hawk. The operation was conducted by the District Police and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in forested areas under Kuchai and Chandil Police Stations, based on information obtained during the interrogation of recently arrested cadres of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist). The arrested cadres were identified as Raghu Singh Sardar alias Sagar Singh Sardar, Biren Singh and Meena Pahadia alias Nepu Pahadia. Police said Raghu was an active member of the CPI-Maoist ‘Regional Committee’ and the West Bengal-Jharkhand-Odisha Border Committee, while Meena, 26, was a ‘Sub-Zonal Commander (SZC)’ wanted in several cases in West Bengal. Searches of the Sikramba Forests in Kuchai and Dalma forests near Asanbani village in Chandil led to the recovery of two .303 rifles, one country-made pistol, one Indian Small Arms System (INSAS) 5.56 mm assault rifle, one Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) 7.62 mm rifle, and nine magazines. The ammunition included 171 rounds of 7.62 mm, 126 rounds of 5.56 mm, 12 rounds of 9 mm and eight .303 cartridges. The IED was subsequently defused by a Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS). Personnel of the SSB 26th Battalion and Police from Kuchai, Chandil, Nimdih and Seraikela Police Stations participated in the operation.
