Two men have been hospitalized after an explosion in Makua Valley.
The call came in at 1:41 p.m.
According to the U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii’s public affairs office, two ground maintenance contractors were injured after encountering an apparent unexploded ordnance at Makua Military Reservation.
They were employees of NuGate Group, LLC. Fire officials say a man was operating a weed-whacker and made contact with the ordnance, which blew up. He took the majority of the blast, and a nearby worker was also injured.
