A Myanmar military airstrike killed two people, including a woman, and injured three others near the historic U Raz Taung Pagoda in Arakan State's Ponnagyun Township this afternoon.

A local United League of Arakan (ULA) official told Narinjara that the deceased have been identified as Daw Soe Soe, 37, from Chediyin Ward, and U Soe Soe from Laykan Village in Rathedaung Township. Both died on the scene after being struck by shrapnel.

The three injured individuals sustained minor injuries and are receiving treatment. They have been identified as Daw Oo Kyaw Sein, 71, and Ma Phyu Htwe, 9, both from Chediyin Ward in Ponnagyun, alongside U Aung Win Maung from the Northeast Ward of Rathedaung.

Local sources report that at approximately 12:30 PM today, a military junta jet fighter dropped two bombs on the No. 6 village tract area in Ponnagyun Township, Sittwe District. One bomb detonated on a creek bank near the historic U Raz Taung Pagoda on the Zedi Yin village side, while the second exploded directly inside the creek. Fortunately, the pagoda itself escaped damage.

The attack comes amid broader reports that the Myanmar military junta, suffering heavy casualties and operational setbacks in its conflict with the Arakan Army (AA), has increasingly targeted civilian areas entirely removed from active frontlines.
