On 11 September 2026, an unidentified Iraq-based militia (likely linked to Iranian-backed groups due to ongoing hostilities between the United States, Israel, and Iran) launched drones that directly impacted several points of the East-West Crude Oil Pipeline including East-West Crude Oil Pipeline Pump Station X (Al Hanakiyah, Al Madinah). The strikes resulted in civilian injuries and material damage that caused the Saudi government to shut the pipeline. Satellite images showed smoke and scorched ground at several points of the 1,200 km pipeline. Saudi authorities claimed that the attack was launched from the Iraqi Maysan governorate.
