On 5 September 2026, around 08:43 Tehran time, United States military forces launched an attack (likely using missiles) that directly impacted 3 Iranian crude oil tankers, including four missiles targeting the Downy tanker (IMO: 9218480), around 6 nm off the Coast of Khark Island (Kharg, Bushehr) in the Persian Gulf, permanently disabling and causing a fire to the vessel. All crew members were rescued via lifeboats and no injuries were reported. The attack was in retaliation to Iranian missile attacks on 2 US navy vessels in the Strait of Hormuz while patrolling the region (coded separately).
