IED event in Chhattisgarh, Kondagaon District area, India on Sat 5th September 2026

On September 5, Security Forces (SFs) recovered a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) explosives dump from a remote forested and hilly area under Mardapal Police Station in Kondagaon District, Chhattisgarh, reports ETV Bharat. Acting on intelligence inputs, SFs found the cache buried in a large plastic drum about 13 kilometres from the main road. The recovery included three tiffin Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) weighing approximately five, three and two kilograms, a 9mm pistol, 160 gelatin sticks weighing about 20 kilograms, and 40 commercial detonators. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) safely defused and destroyed all three IEDs at the site. Police also recovered electric and non-electric detonators, six wireless sets with antennas, chargers and handsets, electric wire, safety fuses, Cordex wire, iron pipes and other Maoist material. Kondagaon Superintendent of Police (SP) Pankaj Chandra said the explosives had been planted by Maoists with the intention of targeting SFs. The recovery was made during an ongoing de-mining campaign, which, according to Chandra, will continue across the district. The operation comes after Chhattisgarh authorities declared Bastar “Maoist-free” on March 31, 2026.
