On September 3, a man was shot dead by unidentified persons near Langjing Hills between Angom Leikai and Kangla Sangomshang under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East district, Northeast Now reports. The National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM) claimed responsibility for the killing, identifying the victim as Waikhom Athoi alias Shidaba (26). NRFM alleged that Athoi was a former cadre of its armed wing, the Manipur Army, who deserted in January 2026 and later became involved in extortion. The outfit claimed it had summoned him on August 19, but he went into hiding instead of appearing before it which led to the killing.
