Missile event in Iran, Islamic Republic of on Tue 1st September 2026

On 1 September 2026, night, U.S. forces conducted strikes (coded as Air/drone strike) targeting a telecommunications mast in the village of Kuhestak (Sirik, Hormozgan). However, available weapons analysis indicates that a U.S. air-delivered guided munition directly struck the residential compound where the wedding was being held, resulting in five explosions. One missile struck the telecommunications mast, while four others hit a residential building located 112 meters away that was hosting a wedding celebration. The Iranian Red Crescent reported at least five people were killed and 67 injured, including two women and a child at the time of reporting. Early analysis suggested a SLAM-ER cruise missile, while subsequent expert assessment indicated that a JSOW or other approximately 500-pound air-dropped munition may be more likely; the exact weapon type remains unconfirmed. The airstrikes by the US were in retaliation for the Iranian military attack against commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
