On 30 August 2026, in El Estrecho (Cauca), suspected FARC dissidents of the Carlos Patino front attacked a military battalion and a police station headquarters with explosives thrown from a vehicle where they adapted launching devices, injuring three civilians and a soldier. Authorities arrested two individuals suspected of being involved in the attack. Due to the detonations the Panamericana Highway was closed for several hours on the Popayan - Pasto stretch. Authorities also defused five explosive cylinders found at the scene that had failed to detonate. There were no fatalities.
