Myanmar National Stabbed to Death After Dispute During Gambling Game in Ruili

According to local residents, a Myanmar national was stabbed to death this afternoon, September 6, at around 5:00 p.m. in the Guangyin/Guanyin area (ကွမ်းရင်စစ်) of Ruili City, China, on the Myanmar-China border, following an argument between Myanmar nationals while gambling.

"Just now, in Guangyin, Myanmar nationals were gambling and ended up stabbing each other. The victim was stabbed directly in the heart. After being stabbed, the man collapsed and appears to have hit his head on the ground as well. He died immediately," said a woman from the border area.

She added that people heard the incident occurred after a dispute between the winner and loser of a gambling game involving money.

"People are saying they started fighting because one side lost money gambling and demanded payment. Inspections and checks were already very strict before. Now that this incident has happened, security checks are likely to become even tighter," said a local male resident.

According to residents, the suspected attacker was arrested when he emerged near the central checkpoint/gate in Jiegao (Kyelgaung, ကျယ်ဂေါင်).

Residents also said that, following recent reports that a Myanmar national had allegedly killed a Chinese citizen in the Mansi (Mengsi/Manxi) area, authorities in border towns have been conducting daily operations against undocumented Myanmar nationals and Myanmar workers whose residence permits have expired, deporting them back across the border into Myanmar.
