Military Junta Airstrikes Sinkhan Bridge

Myat Noe, September 6, Bhamo

According to frontline sources, the military junta carried out an airstrike today, September 6, destroying Sinkhan Bridge (စင်းခန်းတံတား) on the Katha-Bhamo Road near Sinkhan Village in Bhamo Township, Kachin State.

A frontline source said:

"It is true that Sinkhan Bridge was hit by an airstrike. A large hole was blasted into one end of the bridge."

The source added that the steel framework on the eastern side of the bridge was bent and deformed, while the western abutment sustained minor damage. A large bomb crater was also created beneath the bridge at the point of impact.

A local resident said:

"The junta's propaganda supporters have been spreading claims that KIA and PDF forces had built bunkers and were based there. I think that's why they bombed it. Otherwise, they just bombed it without any reason."

According to local accounts, the military has been denying reports that nearly 200 junta troops advancing toward Bhamo by naval vessels in recent days had raised a white flag near Sinkhan Bridge, but observers believe the military remains dissatisfied with the situation.

A source close to the frontline also reported that on September 5, intense fighting occurred at a monastery in Sinkhan Village between junta forces and KIA-led resistance forces. The source said junta forces suffered significant casualties during the clashes.

After junta vessels advancing toward Bhamo were reportedly subjected to heavy ambush attacks by KIA and allied resistance forces between Shwegu and Sinkhan, additional military reinforcements were observed. More than 30 vessels, including military boats, were reportedly dispatched upstream from Gawein Jetty in Mandalay.
