Elderly Husband and Wife Killed by Junta Artillery Fire in Mindat
A Linn, September 4, Mindat
According to local residents, an elderly husband and wife were killed in Mindat Township, Chin State, as a result of indiscriminate artillery shelling by Myanmar military junta forces.
The shelling occurred at approximately 9:00 a.m. on September 4, when military forces fired heavy artillery from Kyaukhtu Town in Magway Region.
A local resident told Shwe Phee Myay:
"They have been firing artillery shells indiscriminately from Kyaukhtu toward Mindat and the surrounding areas since early this morning. They were also shelling the area yesterday evening."
The artillery fire reportedly struck and killed a civilian husband and wife, both around 60 years old, who were living on an orchard farm.
The same resident added:
"An elderly married couple who were out walking were killed. They lived at the orchard farm. The two of them had been living there by themselves for quite some time."
Local sources also reported that on the evening of September 3, military forces based in Kyaukhtu had likewise fired artillery indiscriminately toward Mindat Town and nearby areas.
In addition, at approximately 5:45 p.m. on September 3, a fighter jet reportedly carried out two airstrikes on the eastern side of Mindat Town.
