Other MoA event in North Rhine-Westphalia, Dormagen area, Germany on Thu 3rd September 2026

In Dormagen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, an object was discovered at an electrical substation that police are treating as a possible detonator for a sabotage attempt.

A Cologne police spokesperson reported this to ZDF.

A passerby discovered the suspicious object on the evening of September 3. Police seized it and contacted special units to examine the scene.

The Cologne police spokesperson stated that someone had apparently intentionally attempted to cause a short circuit.

Law enforcement officials have not yet completed their investigation of the find. It is likely that the discovered object was a homemade detonator that could have been used to damage power lines.

However, the substation in Dormagen itself was not damaged, and no power outages were reported.

The police also inspected other substations in the surrounding region but found no new damage or suspicious objects.

The incident in Dormagen occurred amid two other incidents at energy facilities in Germany. On September 2, more than a dozen homemade launch devices were found near a substation close to Jänschwalde Power Station in Brandenburg.

According to investigators, these devices were used to launch conductive material into overhead power lines to cause a short circuit.

Another incident occurred in Bergheim near Cologne. A short circuit was also recorded there, which police believe was intentional.

At the time, the interior minister of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia noted that the attack could have been carried out either by foreign intelligence services or by radical left-wing groups.

Germany is currently investigating whether these three incidents may be linked. Additionally, the police received a letter claiming responsibility for the incident in Brandenburg. The author of the letter described the use of homemade rockets and stated that his motive was to combat the use of fossil fuels.
