Tense night in Ocaña after drone strike on Santander Battalion Ocaña, Norte de Santander, remains on edge after a Friday-night attack on the Cantón Militar Trapiche, home to the Infantry Battalion No. 15 “General Francisco de Paula Santander.” Attackers used a swarm of explosive-laden drones, together with rifle fire and improvised munitions. Two soldiers were killed: Captain Marco David Pirajón Montezuma and professional soldier Joel Alberto Jiménez Jaramillo. Several other troops were wounded, and a Colombian Aerospace Force helicopter was hit by shrapnel. Military housing and other facilities also suffered damage. Authorities have preliminarily blamed the ELN’s Camilo Torres Restrepo Front. One line of inquiry is retaliation for the recent capture in Ocaña of Dairo Ferizzola Rojas, alias “Firu.” The Army and other security units have deployed across the city. Operations continue, and a nighttime curfew was ordered as a precaution.
