An ambush targeting personnel from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) in the municipality of Omealca, Veracruz, resulted in the deaths of two federal investigative agents and left a third injured. SSPC chief Omar García Harfuch confirmed that the officers were conducting intelligence and field investigation work in the area when they were ambushed by a group of armed men belonging to a criminal cell operating in the region. As a result of the attack, two officers lost their lives at the scene, while a third agent was wounded and rushed to a hospital for specialized medical care. In an official statement, the Security Secretary condemned the attack, acknowledged the dedication of the operational personnel, and extended his condolences to the bereaved, reaffirming the agency's unwavering support for the victims' families and the hospitalized agent. “We express our deepest condolences and solidarity with the families, colleagues, and loved ones of our fallen agents. We recognize their bravery and commitment to protecting the public,” stated García Harfuch.
