Myanmar Military Attacks Chaung-U and Myaing Townships with an Mi-35 Helicopter
Sagaing, September 3
The Myanmar military carried out air attacks this afternoon (September 3) using an Mi-35 attack helicopter against Min Khaung Village in Chaung‑U Township, Sagaing Region, and Ba Hnin Village in Myaing Township, Magway Region, despite there being no fighting in either area, according to three local sources who spoke to Red Peacock News Media.
A local source said that an Mi‑35 attack helicopter from the Northwestern Regional Military Command conducted six separate airstrikes on Min Khaung Village in Chaung‑U Township.
A witness to the attack told Red Peacock News Media:
“It kept circling and firing for a long time. We could see flashes from the gunfire. It was also firing .50-caliber weapons. They were spraying machine-gun fire indiscriminately as well.”
According to a local source, an Mi‑35 attack helicopter also opened fire on Ba Hnin Village in Myaing Township, Magway Region this afternoon, even though there had been no fighting in the area. The source added that earlier in the morning, a Y‑12 aircraft had dropped supplies there.
The ACLED organization has warned that the Myanmar military may intensify its use of airstrikes during the coming post-monsoon season.
