Revolutionary Forces Attack the Mon Hnyoe Toll Gate Occupied by the Military
Sagaing, September 3
Two sources who requested anonymity confirmed that revolutionary forces attacked the Mon Hnyoe Toll Gate (မုံရွေးတိုးဂိတ်) on the Monywa–Chaung-U road in Sagaing Region yesterday morning.
At the time of the attack, junta forces were stationed in Kyikun Village and Shwe Da Kae Village, and were reportedly conducting artillery and drone attacks against nearby areas. Revolutionary forces took advantage of the situation and launched a surprise attack on the Mon Hnyoe Toll Gate.
A local resident said:
“At the moment, the checkpoint on the Monywa road is still under attack. While they were entering Shwe Da Kae Village, their base came under attack. They are reinforcing Shwe Da Kae and Kyikun villages with additional troops using six-wheeled trucks.”
Following the clash, information regarding military casualties and fatalities on the junta side remains unknown. It has also not yet been disclosed which resistance group carried out the attack.
The military is currently conducting operations in Shwe Da Kae Village, Kyikun Village, Htan Taw Gyi Village, and Khin Mon Village, forcing local residents to flee their homes.
A local resistance fighter said:
“The fighting is quite intense. Even on days without direct clashes, the enemy continuously fires artillery and .50-caliber weapons. They regularly fire .50-caliber weapons from west of Kyikun. They were still firing this morning.”
According to a statement released by Chaung U Revolution, military personnel who were injured by landmines between Shwe Da Kae Village and Kyikun Village were being transported away by vehicle.
Another local resident said:
“The military column has already moved from Kyikun Village and Shwe Da Kae Village to Htan Taw Gyi Village. The column suffered significant losses.”
According to unverified reports, at least four civilians may have been killed.
Because of the ongoing military operations, nearly 10,000 residents from communities along the Monywa–Amyint road have reportedly been displaced.
