Four car-borne assailants shot dead 45-year-old Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) worker Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi and injured Harpreet alias Happy in the main bazaar of Mamdot, Ferozepur District, on August 29, reports The Tribune. Police suspect personal enmity linked to the recent Municipal Corporation elections. AAP leader Rakesh Kumar alias Vicky Maini, recently elected president of the Mamdot Nagar Panchayat (local body), narrowly escaped the attack as several bullets hit his car. Maini told police that a caller from a foreign number, identifying himself as Daljeet Singh Baba, claimed responsibility for Gurpreet’s murder and threatened him. Baba had been booked during the Mamdot Nagar Panchayat election nomination process.
