IED event in Odisha, Malkangiri District area, India on Wed 26th August 2026

On August 26, the District Voluntary Force (DVF) of Malkangiri Police recovered a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) arms and explosives dump from forest areas along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border in Malkangiri District, Odisha, reports OMMCOM News. Acting on information provided by surrendered Maoists, the DVF conducted a search in the Cherkotla, Kirmiti, Kotwapadar and Kadabhata areas under Mathili Police Station limits, bordering Darbha Police Station in Bastar District and Puspal Police Station in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh. The dump, unearthed at about 5:30 a.m., contained three country-made guns, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) weighing five, three and two kilograms, two Claymore mines, Codex wire, Maoist banners, olive-green uniforms, raincoats, batteries, wires and Maoist literature. The seized material is suspected to have belonged to cadres of the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) of the banned CPI-Maoist. Malkangiri was declared Maoist-free on March 31, 2026. Between January 2025 and March 31, 2026, two Maoists were arrested and 23 surrendered in the district. Three major Maoist dumps had also been recovered in June. Police said search operations would continue.
