SAA event in Chhattisgarh, Morkhandi Forest, Kanker District area, India on Mon 24th August 2026

On August 24, Security Forces (SFs) recovered arms, ammunition and other materials from a suspected Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) dump in the Morkhandi Forest and hilly areas under Chhotebethiya Police Station limits in Kanker District, Chhattisgarh, reports Naidunia. The recovery was made during a joint search operation involving the District Force, Border Security Force (BSF) and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS). The dump, concealed in the forest, contained four loaded guns, three loaded gun barrels, a wireless set, three bundles of electrical wire, a Global Positioning System (GPS) device, a small solar panel and a charger. Maoist literature was also recovered. The operation was conducted as part of intensified efforts to locate concealed Maoist dumps based on information provided by surrendered Maoists. The operation was carried out under the guidance of Bastar Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) Badri Narayan Meena. Senior officers involved included BSF Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Bhanu Pratappur Deepak Tiwari, Kanker Superintendent of Police (SP) Nikhil Rakhecha and 94th Battalion BSF Commander-in-Charge Subhash Chandra. SFs said search operations would continue in forest and hilly areas to locate further Maoist dumps and prevent the resurgence of extremist activity.
