IED event in Odisha, Rourkela, Sundargarh District area, India on Mon 24th August 2026

On August 24, Security Forces (SFs) recovered a suspected Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) dump containing arms, explosives, ammunition and communication equipment from Silakuta Reserve Forest in Rourkela in Sundargarh District, Odisha, reports Pragativadi. Acting on intelligence obtained during the questioning of a Maoist cadre who surrendered on August 23, a joint team of the District Voluntary Force (DVF) and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) conducted a search and area-domination operation in the forest and located the concealed dump. The recovery included one 9mm Carbine 1A1, one Improvised Explosive Device (IED) container, 15 detonators, two magazines, six Motorola walkie-talkies, 20 rounds of 9mm ammunition, a digital multimeter, a walkie-talkie charger, a frequency chart and Maoist literature. Police said the recovered material was seized following due procedure. The recovery is expected to disrupt the Maoist network and prevent the supply of weapons and explosives to cadres. The operation comes amid intensified counter-insurgency efforts in Odisha as authorities pursue the objective of eliminating Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) from the State.
