Mortar Bomb event in Badakhshan, Zebak District area, Afghanistan on Sun 23rd August 2026

On August 23, Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) commandos delivered a response to an attack launched by Taliban in Zebak District of Badakhshan Province, as posted in X. Taliban terrorists, commanded by the deputy of the group’s so-called Northeast Army Corps, launched attacks from several directions against the positions of the AFF fighters. However, they failed to achieve any gains. Following the launch of a counteroffensive by Freedom Fighters, the deputy of the so-called army corps was forced to flee the area. His forces also retreated after sustaining heavy casualties and losses, returning to their shelters behind the front line. A mortar round fired by AFF commandos struck an enemy position equipped with a medium machine gun, disrupting and silencing the sustained fire of a Taliban machine gunner.
