An unknown number of assailants opened fire with 18 shots, killing a villager in Rueso District, Narathiwat Province, in front of his house. Police have not yet concluded whether this was an attempt to create unrest.

Yesterday (September 2, 2026) at 11:55 PM, the investigating officer on duty at Rueso Police Station received a report of an unknown group and number of assailants shooting and killing a villager in front of his house in Moo 5, Rueso Subdistrict, Rueso District, Narathiwat Province

At the scene, on the road in front of the house, officers found the body of Mr. Azming, 56, the homeowner, lying dead in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds from high-velocity bullets.

A thorough search of the surrounding area revealed 18 spent 5.56 mm bullet casings, typically used with M16 or HK assault rifles, scattered on the road. These were collected as evidence for forensic examination

Initial investigations revealed that before the incident, while Mr. Azming was in front of his house, an unknown number of assailants... Taking advantage of the darkness, the assailant infiltrated the area before firing 18 shots at point-blank range. The sound of the gunfire echoed loudly, instantly killing Mr. Azming at the scene. The perpetrator, familiar with the area, escaped without a trace

Police are currently conducting an urgent investigation, including reviewing CCTV footage along the suspected escape route and interviewing close relatives to determine the motive for the attack – whether it stemmed from personal problems, local conflicts, or was an attempt to create unrest – in order to apprehend the perpetrator and bring them to justice
