A 29-year-old man was shot in the right leg after allegedly climbing into a shop in Betong, Yala province, late Wednesday night to steal goods. The 65-year-old shop owner said he woke after hearing someone breaking in, grabbed his .38-calibre handgun and confronted the intruder. The owner said he shouted for the man to stop, but the suspect tried to escape through the same route. He then fired one shot, hitting the man in the leg, before calling police and waiting at the scene to surrender. Police said the firearm was legally registered and that the owner told them he kept it to protect his property. The injured man, who reportedly had been arrested on a drug-related charge about four months ago, was taken to Betong Hospital. Police are investigating the incident. #ThailandNews #Yala
