SAA event in Htantabin area, Myanmar on Fri 28th August 2026

[On] August 28, resistance forces affiliated with the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) attacked a junta military base in Bummati Village, Htantabin Township, Bago Region. A KNLA military source said that 14 junta soldiers were killed and four wounded.

The military base reportedly housed more than 50 junta soldiers. Resistance fighters had monitored the area from the morning before launching their attack.

A KNLA source stated:

"We had been observing since around 7:00 a.m. By noon we had seen no activity, so we fired a shot to provoke a response. When they came out, we opened fire with snipers and then launched a coordinated attack. Around 10 soldiers were killed on the spot, and later some of the wounded reportedly died as well."

Although the attack was carried out by only a small unit, resistance fighters were unable to capture the base because of limited ammunition and were forced to withdraw.

According to the KNLA source, the dead and wounded junta soldiers were transported by vehicle to Infantry Battalion No. 73 (LIB 73) in Zayatgyi Town, Htantabin Township.

Resistance organizations urged civilians to avoid traveling near junta positions and to remain vigilant while resistance operations are underway. They also stated that despite ongoing logistical challenges, they would continue fighting for the establishment of a federal democratic union.
