SAA event in Nampan Checkpoint area, Myanmar on Sat 29th August 2026

A woman affiliated with a militia group was killed in a shooting incident on the afternoon of the 29th at the Nampan checkpoint near the Myanmar-China border, 105 miles from Muse Township in northern Shan State, according to people close to the groups.

The woman driving the black jeep was killed when she refused to stop when she was stopped by the Kokang National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and Arakan Army (AA) soldiers on duty at Nam Pang Gate.

The Nyinaung Alliance Force (105 miles) confirmed that the deceased woman was Yan Kyar Shwe, the daughter-in-law of U Han Win, a Lon Than militia leader active in the area.

A person close to the Nyinaung Alliance said that the vehicle was coming from Muse (105 miles) and was shot at on its way back. The vehicle tried to attack the checkpoint without stopping, so the soldiers on duty opened fire and killed it.

“When I came from Muse to (105) Mile, the woman came in without saying a word to the soldiers at the checkpoint. When I came back, they wouldn’t stop stopping me. They wouldn’t even turn the car off. She hit the soldiers at the checkpoint with her car,” said a person close to the (105) Mile Alliance.

The gate security forces fired seven shots at the car, killing the female driver, who was hit in the head and thigh.

“They were hit once in the head and once in the thigh. They died when they were taken to (Muse) Hospital. It is understood that their family members have been asked to come and collect the bodies,” said a man close to the Brotherhood Alliance.

Myanmar Now is still trying to get a response from the Lon Than militia on the matter. The Arakan Army (AA) has not yet responded to inquiries.

The road connecting the (105) mile trade zone to the border town of Muse, which is only seven miles away, has joint military and MNDAA/AA checkpoints, and both sides check passengers and trucks, according to local residents.

The military checkpoint is only about one furlong (eight furlongs per mile) away from the scene of the shooting.

Currently, residents of (105) Mile are concerned that the shooting will lead to renewed fighting between the military and the MNDAA. 

“The (dead) woman is the daughter-in-law of the Lon Than militia leader. We are afraid that this will cause more problems,” said a local resident from (105) Miles.

In addition to the Long Than militia, militia groups including the Muse Myo Ma militia, Nam Kham Myo Ma militia, former Kaung Kha militia, and the Tamo Nye militia are also active in Muse.

In addition, according to sources close to the militia, militia forces operating in Kutkai, Ta Moe Nye, Nam Kham, and Mong Ko towns prior to “Operation 1027” are also deployed in Muse. On the 18th of this month , a civilian was injured when KIA forces opened fire on a vehicle at a gate on the road near Nam Lai village between Muse and Nam Kham .

A car passing by the KIA gate did not stop, so the soldier on duty opened fire, hitting Sai Aik Hlaing Sai, a resident of Nam San village, who was driving a truck carrying sand. 

This incident led to locals surrounding the KIA checkpoint and destroying it, and closing the toll gate.

The Ta’ang Women’s Organization (TWO) also announced on August 27 that Sai Aik Hlaing Saeng was hit by two bullets under her left shoulder and injured in her right abdomen. She is still receiving treatment at Cherry Myay Hospital in Muse, and that she has not yet received compensation from the KIA. 

During “Operation 1027,” the Myanmar-China border trade zone (105 miles) was captured by MNDAA, TNLA, and AA forces. In March this year, MNDAA forces captured Kutkai, which was controlled by the TNLA, and TNLA forces in Muse (105 miles) were also disarmed.

Therefore, the Muse (105) Mile Trade Zone is currently jointly administered by the MNDAA and AA forces. Muse town, seven miles from the (105) Mile Trade Zone, is controlled by the military and its subordinate militia groups.

The TNLA has captured Nam Kham on the China-Myanmar border, while the MNDAA controls Sinni and Kutkai.

Along the trade route from Mandalay to the Muse (105-mile) trade zone, the military, as well as the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), the Kokang National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), the Arakan Army (AA), and the Shan State Progressive Party (SSPP/SSA) have opened checkpoints.
