Despite the Bangladeshi government’s firm stance against allowing armed groups to operate on its soil, a violent clash between two militant groups in a UN-recognized Rohingya refugee camp has left two children dead and six others injured, including a woman.

According to reports from the area, militants from the Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO) attacked the home of Naw Bi Hussain, a leader of the Arakan Rohingya Army (ARA), in Camp 8 of Ukhia Township, Cox’s Bazar district.

The attack took place on August 27 between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM.

Local residents reported that the shooting occurred at Block B-41, Main Block F, Camp 8E, near the Camp-in-Charge (CiC) office of the Ukhiya Balukhali refugee camp. While initial reports indicated that only one child had been injured, subsequent updates confirmed that two children were killed and six people, including a woman, sustained injuries.

The incident has triggered widespread outrage, prompting local residents and Rohingya refugees to demand the immediate removal of RSO militants from the camps.

Security and living conditions in the Cox’s Bazar refugee camps continue to deteriorate daily due to persistent attacks, kidnappings, and killings by rival armed groups.

According to a report by In Territory News (iTN), refugees and locals are urgently calling on the Bangladeshi government to crack down on armed terrorist groups and criminal gangs.

Although Dhaka officially denies allowing any armed factions to operate within its borders, critics argue that this latest incident proves otherwise. Furthermore, unverified ground reports suggest that the Bangladesh Army may be providing military training to the RSO.
