On 29 August 2021, government soldiers launched mortar shells at the positions of warring MILF factions in Barangay Mindupok (Maitum, Sarangani, Soccsksargen), reportedly in order to prevent the said warring MILF factions from fighting. The two factions had been fighting in previous days due to one faction's anger over the other faction's killing of MNLF members who were relatives of members of the former. The military said that it has sought the help of the MILF leadership to defuse the tension between the warring factions.
