Troops discover detonated IED along Dikwa–Marte road in Borno

By: Zagazola Makama

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have discovered a detonated improvised explosive device (IED) along the Dikwa–Marte road in Borno State, following an explosion reported on the route.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, Aug. 25, 2026, when troops of the 50 Task Force Battalion conducting picketing and route-scanning patrols along the Dikwa–Marte Main Supply Route (MSR) discovered the remains of the explosive device.

Military sources said that the discovery was made at about 10:30 a.m., following the sound of an IED explosion at approximately 7:20 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24.

The troops reportedly found the detonated IED primed on the carcass of an abandoned vehicle close to the bridge along the route. The discovery highlights the continuing threat posed by explosive devices to troops and other road users along major routes in Borno State, where terrorists have previously used IEDs to target military patrols and restrict movement.

The troops immediately secured the area and commenced necessary security measures to prevent further threats along the route. The sources said the general security situation across the Operation Hadin Kai theatre remained calm but unpredictable, while troops’ morale and fighting efficiency remained satisfactory.

Operation Hadin Kai troops continue to conduct route-clearance, surveillance and offensive operations aimed at denying terrorist groups freedom of movement and protecting major supply routes across the North-East.
