27th August 2026
Members of the Zacatecas State Public Security Forces were attacked with explosive devices and gunfire this Thursday in the community of San Luis de Custique, in the municipality of Tabasco. The incident occurred while officers were conducting patrols in response to complaints filed by residents. During the operation, the officers were ambushed by gunmen, triggering a shootout in the area. The state governor, David Monreal, confirmed the attack and detailed the operational situation: "They are still using explosives. There are no injuries, only material damage. The area is already being secured, and we will be addressing this at the security meeting because some unexploded explosives were found. But everything is under control; we have no casualties at this time, and the operations continue." According to police reports, only minor injuries were reported to at least two officers, who did not require hospitalization. As a preventative measure, local authorities urged residents of San Luis de Custique and surrounding areas to remain sheltered in their homes. Federal Highway 54 was also temporarily closed to traffic while security forces intensified patrols and secured access points to the area to neutralize any unexploded ordnance.
