A community leader was murdered during the night of Tuesday 25 to Wednesday 26 August 2026 in the Mambango neighbourhood of Beni, North Kivu.
According to Jurés Mukongoli, a local civil society leader, Patrick Katsuva, chair of SOCICO in Mambango and of the Community Child Protection Network, was shot dead at around 10 pm by as yet unidentified individuals.
The murder took place near several security posts, notably less than 400 metres from the Mangothe Police squadron and approximately 500 metres from the military post at the Nyakunde Evangelical Medical Centre.
Deeply involved in initiatives promoting peace, child protection and community development, Patrick Katsuva was regarded as a committed figure dedicated to serving his community. His murder has caused consternation amongst the people of Mambango and has reignited concerns about the security situation in the neighbourhood.
The exact circumstances of the murder, the identity of the perpetrators and their motive remain unknown at this stage. The community is awaiting the findings of the investigations so that those responsible can be held to account.
