An officer of the Congolese National Police (PNC) was killed by unidentified assailants on the evening of Tuesday 25 August 2026, in the rural commune of Mangina, in Beni territory, North Kivu.

The incident took place at around 10.40 pm in the Mangodomu neighbourhood, specifically in the Manzanzaba sub-district. The victim, identified as Kapalu, was a police officer on duty in that area.

The exact circumstances of this murder remain unknown at this stage. According to Captain Éloi, the police commander in Mangina, the incident was brought to the attention of the local press by a civil society organisation, through its president, Vunyatsi Muongozi.

According to this citizens’ group, the alleged perpetrators fled after committing their crime, taking the police officer’s weapon with them, before heading to a destination that remains unknown. This murder has caused concern amongst the local population.

The Mangina Youth Parliament strongly condemns this act and calls on the authorities to step up security measures in this part of the rural commune. This youth organisation is also calling for a thorough investigation to be launched in order to identify, locate and arrest the perpetrators of this murder, so that they may be brought to justice.

Pending the results of the investigation, the people of Mangina remain concerned by this latest attack on a law enforcement officer in an area already facing security challenges.
