The shooting in Saint-Gilles took place the day after a police station in Anderlecht, another municipality in the Brussels-Capital Region, was shot at.
Bullet marks were left on the building, but no one was injured. At the time of the attack, the station was closed to the public. However, some police units continue to use the premises. The police have not disclosed whether any officers were inside the building during the shooting.
