Mizzima: A child was killed and 11 others were injured when artillery shells fired by the military regime landed near a school in Zee Biy (5) village, Zee Biy village tract, Kyaikto Township, Mon State, according to local residents.
Today (August 19) at approximately 11:14 a.m., an artillery shell fired by the 310th Artillery Battalion of the Theinzarayat-based military junta landed near the soccer field next to the primary school in Zeebay (5) village and exploded, causing injuries and deaths.
"It fell on a house near a football field. The injuries were serious. The child who died had his head blown off. The other five people were seriously injured," the source said.
The deceased child was identified as five-year-old Maung Chit Lin Aung, a resident of Zee Myat (5). Eleven others, including a child under the age of 10 and six teenagers, were injured. Five of them were seriously injured and were taken to Bago and Yangon General Hospitals via Theinzarat District Hospital.
"The school is open. What's happening now is that there's a field next to the school, like a football field. There's a house next to it, separated by a fence. It's between that house and the football field. The damage is severe," said a local.
Theinzarayat-based AMT (310) and the 207th Infantry Battalion frequently fire heavy weapons at villages such as Zee Myat, Win Kan, and Wa Bo Chaung in Kyaikto Township, frequently causing civilian casualties.
In addition, the military often uses the Zee Myat Road to conduct military incursions and has planted landmines, which often cause casualties among local residents. Zee Myat Road is a village tract located on the road that leads to Thein Zayet town.
