Mizzima: Mizzima's on-the-ground sources say that about 10,000 people from 10 villages are fleeing their homes due to the military's military incursion in the southern part of Kani Township, Sagaing Region.

Starting at 9 a.m. yesterday (August 18), the military junta launched a series of ground offensives in addition to naval artillery.

“The ground forces suddenly attacked, so we all ran away. We couldn’t take any supplies. The naval forces were also firing, so we felt like we were in the middle of the action, and we were scared,” said a displaced woman from Kani Township.

The military junta has deployed an estimated 800 troops to take control of the Monywa-Kani-Yaky road, deploying in Chaungma and Muthaw villages.

“The military has been stationed in our village for four months. Our family has no jobs and it is difficult for our children to study. They have to move from one place to another to escape the war. Some villages have become resentful of the IDPs after the war has ended. They are also worried that if they return to their homes, they will be seen as collaborating with the military,” a local woman, who did not want to be named for security reasons, told Mizzima.

This morning (August 19), the military regime launched airstrikes with three gyrocopters on the northwest side of Kani Township. The number of casualties is still being investigated.

As the military junta troops have been stationed in villages in the southern part of Kani Township and are moving around in their military lines, approximately 10,000 locals from villages such as Chaung Ma, Thet Win, Min Ma, Thamen Chan, Muthaw, and Aung Mingalar have been forced to flee their homes.
