RPG event in Saw Township area, Myanmar on Wed 19th August 2026

Mizzima.. Clashes and drone attacks are ongoing between the military and the People's Defense Forces in Magway Region. Local PDF forces have announced that weapons and ammunition were seized from the military during the clashes in Saw Township, and that a drone attack on a military checkpoint in Salin Township killed four people and injured seven.

According to a military statement issued on August 19 by the National Unity Government (NUG), Ministry of Defense, and People's Defense Forces (PDF) Magway Division, clashes broke out between the military junta and PDF district and battalion units attempting to advance into Saw Township.

Magway Division PDF reported that during the clearing of the area after the fighting, five MA-1 rifles, one MA-2, two MA-3 rifles, one RPG-7, and one 60 mm grenade launcher were seized from the military junta forces, as well as 139 rounds of 5.56 ammunition and 109 rounds of G3 ammunition.

The statement also states that the fighting in Saw Township has been going on for a long time and that the civilians are fighting to protect their lives and property from the military regime's attacks.

Similarly, at around 6 pm yesterday (August 19), the Minbu District No. 5 Battalion and its Drone Wing announced that a drone attack was carried out on the military regime’s Si Kung checkpoint near Wat Theekan in Salin Township.

The group said that a total of seven members of the military regime, police and Pyu Saw Htee were injured and four were killed in the attack. The attack was carried out jointly by the Minbu District Military Department, Minbu District No. 5 Battalion and the battalion's drone wing.
