Mizzima.. A local resident of Kam Phyu village in the northeastern part of Wet Let Township was killed on the spot and three others were seriously injured when a Y-12 aircraft, which was hovering above a group of warships sailing along the Ayeyarwady River, was hit by an airstrike, according to a local.

The airstrikes were carried out twice at 7:30 a.m. today (August 22), and local residents say that villages along the riverbank are currently fleeing the fighting.

“The (warship group) arrived on the 21st and spent the night at the Sheimma Car Farm in the southeast of Wetlet Township and then came up this morning. The Y-12 was flying overhead. Three civilians were seriously injured and one died on the spot,” said a local.

The shelling killed a cow and a dog and damaged a house.

“All the villages along the coast are fleeing. They are firing at us with heavy weapons,” said a member of the Irrawaddy Nagas Without Borders.

The Wetlet Township PPA announced on social media that the warship group consisted of two attack ships, one dredger, four tugboats, and eight tugboats, totaling 15 vessels, and was sailing up the Ayeyarwady River from Mandalay's Gowein Port.

The group of warships, which were advancing in rows, were being escorted by a reconnaissance aircraft and a Y-12 aircraft, according to the revolutionary groups.

Therefore, the Wetlet Township PAP group has warned people living along the riverbank and on the island to be aware of the dangers of airstrikes and artillery.
