Mizzima. . . 10 guns and 2,059 bullets believed to have been brought from Myanmar were seized in Mizoram, India, on August 3 and 23, local media outlets including All India Radio Aizawl reported.

Security forces seized weapons brought from Myanmar's Chin State, which borders Mizoram's Nyaungshwe district, within 20 days.

During the two arrests, 10 guns and 2,059 bullets were seized, and related individuals, including Myanmar nationals, were also arrested.

“Mizoram has accepted us with full sympathy and understanding, but they have said they will not tolerate arms and drug smuggling. We support the arrest of such people, and I think everyone should come together,” a leader of the IDP relief effort told Mizzima.

He said that Myanmar citizens should avoid such activities as much as possible and earn a living through honest work.

Troops from the Tin Sai Police Station, No. (14) Assam Rifles and members of the Mizo Youth Association seized three AK 47 rifles, four cartridges and nine rounds of ammunition, believed to have been illegally brought from Myanmar, near New Ngharchhip village at around 3:30 am yesterday (August 23), local media reported.

The accused of illegally bringing weapons from Myanmar is a 43-year-old man from Zolpui village, Longlay district, Mizoram state.

Two Chinese-made 125 Kimbo motorcycles and two mobile phones used to transport weapons were also seized. The two people on one of the motorcycles reportedly escaped.

The gun and related items were allegedly transported to Aizawl and intended to be delivered to a person. The arrested person has been sent to Nay Pyi Taw district and the police are investigating the further circumstances.

Similarly, Mizoram police seized seven guns and 2,050 bullets from a Myanmar national and two locals in a car near Tin Sai village in Nyaung Thar district at around 8 am on August 3.

A 42-year-old woman, a 30-year-old man from Longlay, Mizoram, and a 27-year-old driver from Laysing village, Chin State, Myanmar, were arrested and charged with weapons and foreign crimes.

A weapons expert said that the seized guns included two MA1s and one MA3, used by the military, and the remaining four were AK47s.

Local news reports indicate that in addition to weapons brought from Myanmar, drug seizures are also occurring continuously in Mizoram.

The Mizo Youth Association has informed a Myanmar woman and six men living in the New Zhanfai neighborhood of Zhanfai town, Mizoram state, that they are involved in the drug trade, heroin, and have been told to leave the neighborhood by August 29, Maipawl reported.
