On 3 September 2021, in the rural area of Arauca (Arauca), unidentified armed individuals activated an explosive when a military unit passed near the device planted in the La Esmeralda area. Four people were reported injured, among them 2 civilians. Hours earlier, a homicide had occurred, so when the authorities were attending to the removal of the body, the explosive charge was activated. While the area is known for the presence of several armed groups, authorities identified the 10th FARC dissident faction as responsible for the attack.
