On 16 August 2026, an Israeli drone launched an airstrike on an IDP tent near Al Aqsa university in Khan Yunis - West (Municipal Stadium) (Khan Yunis, Gaza Strip) killing a PIJ militant and injuring 7 people. Israeli artillery also opened fire towards south of Khan Yunis but one of the bullets struck Nasser Medical Complex in the same location with no casualties. This strike as a response to Hamas planting an explosive under an Israeli tank the day before, without causing casualties. This event occurred in a Hamas-controlled area of the Yellow Line.
