17th August 2026
On 17 August 2026, a Russian military drone entered Moldovan airspace and crashed and exploded in a maize field about 3 kilometers outside Talmaza (Talmaza, Stefan Voda), leaving a crater about 2 meters in diameter and 50 cm deep and causing a vegetation fire; no casualties were reported. Moldovan National Army surveillance systems detected the aircraft at 17:37 on the Cuciurgan-Tiraspol trajectory, prompting a 15-minute closure of airspace over the Centru sector, while police explosive technicians later found aileron fragments, servo steering elements, a turbojet engine, fiberglass fuselage pieces, and electronic components resembling those used in rocket-type 'Banderol' drones, although the exact model remained under investigation.
